Mangaluru: 7th Western Open National Level Karate Championship- 2014 held
Mangaluru, November 3: The 7th Western Open National Level Karate Championship- 2014 witnessed the inauguration of ‘Jeet Kunedu,’ a seminar by Cheetah Yajnesh Shetty, the first Indian awardee of US Martial Arts Hall of Fame 2014 on November 1 at U.S Mallya Indoor stadium at 11.00 am.
Sri Ishwar Kateel, member Dakshina Kannada Karate Federation, Sri Jagdish Shetty, proprietor Devi Dayal Builder’s and Earth Movers, Sri Ivan D’souza, honorable MLC, Government of Karnataka inaugurated the seminar.
Dr Iqbal KM, General Secretary of All India Taichi Federation, Haruka Ito Japanese Martial Arts trainer, Sensei Alagiri Raja manager for the organizing committee of All India Karate Federation and Shihan Victor D’souza, chief instructor Western Institute of Martial arts were also present as chief guests. Sri Walter Stephan Mendes welcomed the guest and the gathering while Mrs. Flora Mendes compeered the programme. The day also witnessed various events in the brown belt category.
The 7th Western Open National Level Karate Championship-2014 concluded on a grand note on November 2. The event was held at U.S Mallya Indoor stadium, Mangaluru. The event witnessed a spectacular Martial Arts show by various teams from different parts of the country. Teams like Wakayama Karate Do (Bangalore), Kananga Lau (Kerala), Shitoryu Karate Federation (Goa), Ramanjaneya Gymnasium (Mangaluru) and others participated in the event. All the teams entertained the crowd with their amazing feats and acrobatic performance.
The chief referee of the tournament Dr. Iqbal KM who is also the General Secretary of All India Taichi Federation presented a special Thai Chi performance. Haruka Ito, Japanese Martial arts trainer also gave a splendid demonstration.
Team Ramanjaneya Gymnasium (Mangaluru) and team Kananga Lau (Kerala) grabbed the first place with a cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- while the second place was shared by team ‘Shitoryu’ Karate Federation (Goa) and team ‘Wakayema’ (Bangalore) who took with them a cash prize of Rs. 5000/-
The closing function was presided over by Sri Sadananda Shetty, president of Dakshina Kannada Karate Federation. Sri Ishwar Kateel, member of Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayath and Sri Jagadish Shetty, proprietor, Devi Dayal Builders and Earth Movers were also present as chief guests. Sri Walter Stephen Mendes, president, Western Institute of Martial Arts welcomed the guests and the gathering. Mrs. Flora Mendes proposed the vote of thanks.
Prizes were distributed for the winners of the tournament. All the black belt events were scheduled for the day. St Lawrence Indian School, Kinnigoli, secured the highest points amongst various schools which participated in the event. Goshin Ryu Karate Federation do- emerged as the overall champions in the tournament.
The Karate students had a fruitful and productive seminar by Cheetah Yajnesh Shetty, renowned martial arts trainer, on November 1 and 2, 2014 at the same venue.
Around 75 students were trained by this great martial art trainer of Bollywood. Cheetah Yajnesh Shetty was also present for the prize distribution and the closing ceremony. The martial arts reality show was judged by him and Haruka Ito.
