Rishabh from Bihar Sharif who emerged as the state topper with an All India Rank (AIR) 404 after obtaining 296 marks out of 360 in the JEE Mains, the results were declared on Thursday, led a host of candidates from Bihar who came out with flying colours.

Rishab was a student at Abhyanand Super 30 coaching institute. Out of the 22 students from Abhyanand Super 30 who appeared for the test, 20 qualified, the institute informed HT.

All 30 students from another top coaching institute, Super 30 qualified with good marks, its founder Anand Kumar said.

One hundred seventy five students out of 293 from Elite Institute who appeared for the exam cleared the first hurdle and will now focus on JEE Advanced examination to be held on May 21. Anushka Bharti of the institute scored highest among the 175 with 218 marks.

Shivam of FIITJEE was the highest scorer for the institute with AIR 417 obtaining 295 marks. One hundred and five students out of 800 from Mentor Academy qualified for JEE Advanced.

This year the cut-off was very low as compared to the previous year. For the general category, it declined to 81 from 105, for OBC it was reduced to 49 from 79, 32 from 45 for Scheduled Castes and 27 from 40 for Scheduled Tribes. Interestingly, for people with disability (PWD) quota, the cut-off reduced to just 1 mark from 11 marks in 2016.

“This year, the Maths and Physics papers were lengthy and Chemistry was very easy. Many candidates could not have attempted some of the questions and left untouched for lack of time. This is one of the reasons why the cut-off was dropped,” said Amarjeet Jha Gautam of Elite Institute.
