​Man loses money after hackers send mail requesting transfer of amount


Udupi: In an incident reported, a man allegedly lost more than Rs 2 lakh after his email was allegedly hacked.

Melvyn D’Costa is an NRE account holder at Vijaya Bank, Korangrapady branch. It is said that on June 7, Melvyn sent an email to the bank requesting for a transfer of Rs 2,35,000 to his wife’s account as she needed it for medical expenses. The bank processed the request and transferred the amount.

The same day, Melvyn’s email was hacked and a mail was sent to the bank requesting for a transfer of Rs 2,35,000 to a specified account number at ICICI Bank, New Delhi. The bank, processed this request too, but they did so without any confirmation.

A case has been registered.
