Karnataka CM gives Mangaluru Dasara inaugural a miss on grounds he was not invited
At best of times CM Siddaramaiah had all the time to inaugurate the common man’s dasara at Sri Kshetra Kudroli. This was on September 27, 2014. A year earlier in 2013, it was D Veerendra Heggade, dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala who did the honours and in 2012, the honour was bestowed on Sonia Gandhi, AICC chairperson. But, come 2016 Siddaramaiah gave the inauguration of Mangaluru Dasara the miss although he was in town.
Rumours were rife that Siddaramaiah could visit Sri Kshetra Kudroli to inaugurate Mangaluru Dasara as he was in town in connection with laying foundation stone for a veterinary college at Koila in Puttur taluk. And when CM decided to visit the house of Ivan D’Souza, chief whip of the government in state legislative council, at Valencia in the evening, the rumour mills did overtime about CM’s impending visit to Gokarnanatha Temple for this purpose.
Sources privy to the development said minister for food and civil supplies and consumer affairs U T Khader broached the topic of CM visiting the Sri Kshetra at the airport after he left from Ivan’s house. The sources maintained that CM told Khader since there was no official invite for him from the Kshetra in general and former KPCC president B Janardhan Poojary who handles affairs of the temple and Mangaluru Dasara in particular, it will not be prudent for him to visit.
Ivan also told TOI that a visit to Kudroli to inaugurate Mangaluru Dasara was not on the cards and it was not included in the CMs official tour programme. About the CM’s decision to visit his house, Ivan said, he invited the CM on his arrival to the city and the CM accepted the same. "He was in my house for around 45 minutes after he came here from Koila," Ivan said, adding, the CM left for Mangaluru International Airport to board the special flight to Bengaluru.
All this drama created a stir given that there was political expectations of a possible rapprochement between Siddaramaiah and Janardhan Poojary, with the former Union minister publicly berating several decisions taken by the CM. The CM reportedly had brought this rants to notice of AICC general secretary in-charge of Karnataka Digvijay Singh. Finally, it was left to Indira Shanti and Lakshmi Shanti, the women priests of the temple to inaugurate Mangaluru Dasara.
