Youth assaults KSISF security staff, held


Police said Suhas Shetty, an undertrial was released from the jail four days ago and he was roaming around the prison on Tuesday noon. Police also said he was trying to throw something inside the jail. When KSISF staff deployed outside the prison questioned him, he assaulted them and tried to flee. He was booked under IPC Section 186 for obstructing a public servant from discharging his duty. A case has been registered at Barke police station.
Police raid illegal sand mines
The Mangaluru city police on Tuesday conducted raids on illegal sand mines and arrested 12 persons in this connection. Police also seized an earth mover, two boats and four trucks. Sanjeev M Patil, DCP (Crime and Traffic), said raids were conducted in Jeppinamogaru and Panambur based on a tip off. Cases have been registered at jurisdictional police stations, he added.
Cellphone thief held
Surathkal police have arrested a person who had robbed a woman student of her mobile phone at NIT-K campus on Sun day. The accused is Sandeep,23, a resident of Madhya. Police have recovered the mobile phone worth Rs 14,000 from him. In another case, the Surathkal police arrested Hamza,19, of Katipalla, a bike lifter and seized three bikes from him.
Chandigarh resident drown in river
A student of Manipal University drowned at the Suvarna river End Point on Monday. The deceased Anudev,19, a resident of Chandigarh, was an ICAS student at Manipal. Anudev along with his friends had gone to End Point on Monday morning.
While swimming in the river, Anudev drowned. Locals rushed him to KMC hospital where he died. Manipal police have registered a case.
