Organizations threaten of protests if govt celebrates Tipu Jayanti
Mangaluru: Activists belonging to Tipu Jayanti Virodhi Horata Samiti and Vishwa Hindu Parishad have decided to stage protests against the state government’s decision on celebrating Tipu Jayanti on November 10.
The state government announced a few days back that Tipu Jayanti would be celebrated on November 10 this year and the Department of Kannada and Culture would organize celebrations.
Reports state that the VHP was against celebrating Tipu Jayanti as Tipu Sultan was responsible for atrocities on Hindus and Christians in several parts of the state. It is said that in case the government went ahead with the celebrations, a decision on future course of action would be taken by district organizations on October 30.
In the meantime, Tipu Jayanti Virodhi Horata Samiti will submit a memorandum to Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner KG Jagadeesha on October 17. Sources say that they too have planned on staging protests if the government went ahead with the celebrations.
