PM has given opposition a ’Brahmastra’ to attack him with demonetisation drive: Poojary

Addressing reporters here, Poojary while agreeing with the intent of the PM in taking the step, said shoddy preparation and resultant hardships to poorer and weaker sections of society should at least now convince Modi of the futility of his decision. Reiterating that the government has taken the decision without due preparation, he wondered if the PM’s assurance that things will be alright by December 30 holds true given that Modi has not lived up to similar other assurances.

The daily wage earners, labourers, small-time farmers, students, businessmen and a host of other sections of people are forced to stand in long queues before banks and post offices to exchange or deposit currency notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1,000 denomination in their possession. This is depriving them of opportunity to go about their daily business and earn a livelihood and further aggravating their situation, he said, adding the PM is shedding crocodile tears for the affected.
Exhorting PM Modi and finance minister Arun Jaitley to read the IT Act, Poojary said Sections 276 (A) and 276 (B) of this act has clearly laid down steps on how to deal with the issue of black money and counterfeit currency. Wondering if PM and his team of advisors are not aware of this provision in the Act, he sought to know how many people have been prosecuted and jailed using this available provision and added that the nation is awaiting his answer to this poser.
Pointing that the demonetization drive has made India a laughing stock among comity of nations, Poojary said foreigners visiting India especially tourists are busy striving to lay their hands on legal currency in major tourist centres. Asking if the PM is oblivious to all these facts, Poojary said Modi willy-nilly has given the opposition that is closing ranks on the issue, a ’Brahmastra’ to target him and his government in the forthcoming winter session of Parliament.
