Netravati Samrakshana Samithi to conduct surgical strike against Yettinahole Project from Jan 26
Mangaluru: Netravati Samrakshana Samithi will conduct surgical strike against Yettinahole project in Karnataka state as congress led state government is not ready to hear the issues related to the project, said former MLA and BJP leader Viajay Kumar Shetty on Wednesday in a press meet held at press club in the city.
Speaking to the media reporters here he said, “National Green Tribunal (NGT) had asked to submit an expert committee report on environment damage which will occur while implementing the project. The tribunal has also sought a data on the trees removed and environment damaged in the initial project works carried out so far.”
"NGT had asked to submit a report on the environment damage caused by works being carried out as part of the project on January 14 followed by a hearing on January 16. However, now the hearing has been postponed to January 20 as state government failed to submit its survey report conducted on January 2 and 3 on the environmental damage and expected exploitation of environment. Political powers are purposeful trying to postpone the hearing,” he said.
"If the state government fails to get report on environmental damage on January 20, then it will delivers its judgement or opinion on the issue. Based on this protests, agitations will be started from January 26 till South Canara gets justice on the issue," he said.
Criticizing the move of District in charge minister B Ramanath Rai BJP leader said, "the minister can stop the project within a day if he really wants to save us. As a origin of Bantwal he has done some development works for the people there however he did nothing for Dakshina Kannada till now."
Meanwhile, criticizing the move of Karnataka state BJP president BS Yeddyurappa on the issue he said "the statement of the senior leader on the project is unfortunate. He said a committee will soon meet the state state BJP president and will provide necessary information how the project will affect South Canara and finally fail without supporting the beneficiaries of the planned project. Yeddyurappa had earlier supported the project stating, he would convince the people of South Canara on the project while speaking to the expected beneficiaries of the project.
