Online petition to resume flight services at Mysore airport .
The Mysore Travel’s Association has started an online petition on Wednesday requesting Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Minister for Civil Aviation Ashok Gajapathi Raju, to interfere and take necessary steps to make Mysore airport functional which is defunct since November 17, 2015.
The online petition was started to bring more pressure on the state and central governments and also it has detailed information like the existing facilities at airport like Night Landing Facilities that include Approach Lights and Runway End Lights, State-of-the-art X-ray Machines, full-fledged automated operations Tower and well-trained State Police guarding 24x7. The petition also explains why Mysore airport needs to be functional. The Airport, which was operated by Spice Jet and Indigo before, was last used commercially by Air India between September 3 and November 17, 2015.
The petition also has brief information about visits of VVIPs starting from the the President of India and prime minister for the inauguration of JSS Hospitals, Dalai Lama for the Convocation at the University of Mysore, the Defense Minister Manohar Parrikar, Sri Baba Ramdev, Imam-e-Haram of Mecca, Saleh bin Muhammad bin Ibrahim Aal Taalib, Muhammad Yunus- the Winner of Nobel Peace Prize from Bangladesh, the Vice President of India for the renowned Jamboree and many such delegates including the Chief Minister making use of Mysore airport facility for their visit to Mysore airport though operations have not been conducted commercially. The successful transport of currency from Mysore’s BRBMNPL to every city of the country post-demonetisation is mentioned. Almost 90 tonnes of payload worth over Rs 4000 Crore was transported successfully.
The petition also has other reasons as to why Mysore airport needs to be functional citing the city as a hub for Yoga, healthcare, education, art forms, rich culture and history. Considering the huge inflow of foreign tourists flight operations in Mysore would mean more convenient and hassle free travelling for them. The petition also mentions about IT companies at Mysore where only Infosys is having more than 11,000 employees, Wipro Ltd more than 3,000 staff and other companies like Larsen and Turbo, Excel Soft with thousands of employees. Keeping this all in mind, the association has requested both state and central governments to take steps to make Mysore airport functional at the earliest.
