Passengers demand flagging off of Kudla Express on March 26
Mangaluru: The Railway Ministry has decided to inaugurate the new line between Bengaluru and Hassan on March 26; however, passengers have expressed anguish as the ministry is yet to begin the Kudla Express (Yeshwantpur-Mangaluru Central-Yeshwantpur).
Several people have been fighting for the Bengaluru-Hassan line to be completed after it was sanctioned in 1996-97; the line is said to reduce the time travel between Mangaluru and the state capital.
Lokesh from Karnataka Railway Vedike, Bengaluru said that it was surprising that the Railways ignored passengers’ demand of faster connectivity though the line was being inaugurated.
Another activist noted that the Bengaluru-Hassan and the Hassan-Mangaluru lines were substantially funded by the state government, yet there were only two trains connecting the two cities.
Further, the activist asserted that the elected representatives had to urge the Railway Ministry that the Kudla Express be inaugurated on March 26 itself.
