SC orders floor test, refuses to stay Parrikar’s oath-taking
The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to stay swearing in of Parrikar as Goa Chief Minister and ordered a floor test on March 16.
The apex court also directed that Assembly session will be called at 11 AM and only business of the House will be the holding of floor test after swearing in of the members.
Hearing the petition, the apex court said "You never mentioned you had support before Governor or in this petition. You would have held a dharna outside Raj Bhavan if you had a majority.” The Supreme Court said that the numbers should determine the single largest party.
Congress has saught a composite floor test in Goa Assembly between Manohar Parikar and Chandrakant Kavlekar.
SC also asked whether Congress has any evidence to repudiate Manohar Parikar’s claim of having support of 21 MLAs despite BJP winning only 13 seats.
Newly elected Congress legislature party leader in Goa, Chandrakant Kavlekar prayed that the governor was duty-bound to invite the single largest party to form the government.
Manohar Parrikar, who resigned as Defence Minister to return to Goa, is scheduled to be sworn in as chief minister on Tuesday evening.
