Policeman injured in encounter in Kashmir
A policeman was injured during an encounter between security forces and militants in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district today, police said. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Kalaroos village of the district this morning following specific intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in the area, a police official said.
He said as the forces were conducting the operation, the hiding militants fired upon them, triggering an encounter. During the initial gunfight, a policeman was injured, the official said, adding the injured cop has been taken to a hospital for treatment. The operation is in progress and further details were awaited, he said.
