BJP, RSS oppose asylum to Rohingya

Senior RSS functionary Indresh Kumar urged the Islamic nations to come forward to give shelter and citizenship to the Rohingya. Kumar also stressed that Rohingya are involved in terrorist activities.

“Rohingya are not inhabitants of India if you go by history, they belong to Bangladesh, so how can they be allowed to stay in India? Moreover, they have been involved in terrorist activities here..I want to know one thing, why not [sic] Islamic nations come forward and offer citizenship to Rohingya. Whereas in our country, we already have a huge population and comparatively small land size,” he told reporters.

The BJP’s stand is also in consonance with its ideological mentor as the party rejected BSP chief Mayawati’s call to adopt a humanitarian approach towards thousands of Rohingya Muslim families living in the country.

BJP spokeperson G V L Narsimha Rao said the Centre was meeting all humanitarian obligations, but it cannot turn a blind eye to the fact that a large number of illegal immigrants residing here are posing a challenge to the security of the country. The Centre, interestingly, filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court stating “Rohingya are a threat to national security”.
