Former India cricketer Arun Lal reveals battle with cancer

Arun Lal, former India opener and cricket commentator, is recovering after undergoing treatment for a "rare and dangerous" jaw cancer.
The cancer was detected in January this year following which Lal underwent a fourteen-hour surgery and replacement of jaw. "It’s a rare and dangerous cancer," he told The Hindu. "The symptoms were detected in time (in January) before I went through a rigorous treatment process. Thank God, I have been able to hold my place."Yuvraj Singh, who successfully battled lung cancer in 2011 and returned to playing international cricket, was among those who called the 60-year-old during the difficult time.
"I know what it feels like because I have been through this. It’s nice if you can share someone’s pain and help him overcome it. I always try to understand the mindset of the patient because it mentally defeats you." Yuvraj was quoted as saying.Lal played in 16 Tests and 13 ODIs for India during a two-decade long cricket career. Scoring two half-centuries after replacing Sunil Gavaskar in the Kolkata Test against Pakistan in 1987, a high score of 93 at the same venue against West Indies, scoring an unbeaten fifty in the 1989-90 Ranji final to help Bengal win the title are few of the highlights from his cricketing career.
Lal, who has made name as a commentator after retirement, expects to be back in the commentary box in two months time.
