MP boys post big win over Jharkhand


Shreyas Dhupe stole the limelight on Friday as his hat-trick helped Madhya Pradesh Hockey Academy hand Jharkhand a 5-0 drubbing in the 7th Hockey India Sub-junior National Championships (Division ‘A’) here at the hockey stadium on Friday.

In the Pool ‘D’ encounter, Dhupe got his goals in the 30th, 40th and the 67th minutes, while Haider Ali netted a brace with goals in the 61st and the 65th minutes to complete the rout. In Pool C, Punjab staged an incredible comeback to draw 2-2 with Chandigarh.

Punjab forward Surdarshan Singh scored a brace in dying minutes of the game to steal a point from the encounter. Chandigarh took the lead a minute before half-time with Sanjay converting from a penalty corner. Four minutes after the teams changed sides, Hashim struck a penalty stroke to double Chandigarh’s lead.

Punjab raised their tempo and were rewarded in the 67th minute when Surdarshan scored a field goal. Two minutes later, he equalised to bring his side on level terms.

Champions Gangpur-Odisha went down 0-1 to Odisha.
