Need to adapt to the conditions quickly, says Moody

While paceman Ashish Nehra was ruled out for the remainder of the tournament, star batsman Yuvraj Singh remains uncertain for Wednesday’s clash here at the M Chinnaswamy stadium.

“Ashish Nehra won’t be fit for the remainder of the tournament,” disclosed Sunrisers’ coach Tom Moody here on Tuesday. “Yuvraj will be undergoing a fitness test this evening. We’ll be giving him every opportunity to prove his fitness. At this stage we’re reasonably confident.”
It’s a repeat of 2016 clash when Sunrisers eliminated KKR at same stage and went on to emerge champions.

“Got a lot of fond memories (of that match),” said Moody. “But comparing last year with this year... Completely different circumstances. Different balance to our side. KKR have got different personnel and are playing a different style, with (Chris) Lynn and (Sunil) Narine at the top. It’s probably got to do with the kind of pitches they have been playing on. So completely different circumstances,” he noted.

Unlike in the past, Bengaluru has witnessed low totals this season and Moody had this to offer on the changed nature of the pitch here. “We only arrived last night, so we haven’t looked at the surface yet,” he began. “But we’re fully aware of the challenges teams have faced here in Bangalore.

Unfortunately we had a washout here, which could have been quite costly for us, given RCB weren’t in the middle of a hot winning streak at the time. It is a different surface. Last year when we played the final, we knew if we didn’t get 200 we weren’t in the contest. This year, if we get 150-160, we’re very much in the contest. So you need to adapt, and arrange the balance of your side according to the conditions.”
Moody also downplayed KKR’s lack of form in the last five matches.

“KKR’s form over the past two weeks is not going to be relevant come tomorrow night. It’s a final. They’ve got a lot of experience, a lot of players who know how to win finals. We just have to make sure we focus on us, performing with the same mindset we’ve done recently.”
